It has always had a protective cover around it and the stirrups when they were strapped up. The only drawback is the light spots on the saddle flap caused by the stirrup leathers when riding. The saddle has been slightly padded at the back and has a 16cm gullet width. It was fitted on my German sport horse, but became too narrow at the shoulder.
