Special Shire Horse mare Calypso - Thank you for your interest in our Shire Horse mare Calypso.
Calypso was born in 2016 and has full papers from the English Shire Horse Society.
With a height of 1.73 cm she is not a giant, but brings all the great qualities of the Shire Horse breed.
Her character is special. She likes to choose "her" people and demands calmness and composure from them. In return you get a reliable and people-oriented partner who - if the chemistry is right - would go through fire for her human.
Calypso was acquired by us as a brood mare. Unfortunately we noticed already at her arrival that she had mallenders, which can be treated well but are still persistent. Since it has not yet been scientifically proven whether mallenders or the predisposition to them are hereditary, we have decided not to use them for breeding. As breeders we see ourselves in the responsibility not to take any risks - towards the animal.
Instead, Calypso was ridden regularly and showed herself to be very well-behaved and motivated. Due to time constraints, she has not been ridden for some time, so we would have to start with the basics again.
Calypso is in a mixed herd and has proven to be social and tolerant of herds. She is also used to being kept in a box, but feels much more comfortable in a paddock box or in an open stable. She is sociable and easy to handle, but insists on being praised when she does something great and that everything is done calmly. She reacts to stress and pressure with stubbornness.
Due to her mallenders, Calypso is being sold far below value. With appropriate care (this is not overly elaborate, detailed instructions will of course be explained to future owners) and regular exercise, however, this is really good to keep in check.
We have decided to look for a place for Calypso with people who are willing to spend a few more grooming sessions to get a really great and grateful Shire Horse mare in return.
Vet, farrier and trailer riding are no problem for Calypso.
Of course she will be vaccinated and dewormed regularly. The last vaccination was done in July this year, her teeth were last done 9 months ago.
If you are interested, you are welcome to get to know her at any time, we can be reached via Whatsapp for more information.
Our animals are only given away to the best hands and a home suitable for their age, therefore it is important to us to take enough time for interested parties. Since we also raise bottle foals which demand their meals every hour (even at night), we ask for your understanding if the response to inquiries can sometimes take a few (few) days.
